Here is a surprising spectacle! This spy video catches two examples of the Ford Mustang Mach 1 lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife during the industry test period.
Motor1.com contacted Ford for more details on the ripple of these Mach 1. “Handling matters. The Mach 1 is our all-new performance pinnacle of the 5.0L Mustang, as well as the most capable 5.0L V8 Mustang ever.” spokesman Jiyan Cadiz said. “And like many of our vehicle offerings, Ford often performs tests at the Nürburgring because it is one of the most dynamic and difficult roads in the world.”
The two Mach 1 examples are identical other than their different colors. Since Ford is doing handling tests, we suspect the pair uses slightly different suspension setups. Evaluating lap times and driver feedback on the feel would help engineers determine the ideal settings.
It should be noted that these Mustangs appear to be within European specifications. They do not have the orange reflectors like an American vehicle would and carry clear taillights like the Euro model, while the lights are red in the United States. This could indicate that the Mach 1 is available outside of North America, such as with the Bullitt.
“For now, our focus is on the North American launch of the 2021 Mustang Mach 1, with availability from US and Canadian dealers in spring 2021,” Cadiz told Motor1.com, when asked about the chances of the Mach 1 is available in Europe.
One thing that stands out clearly from this clip is that the Mach 1 sounds great. The V8 makes a deep rumble that you can still hear even as the pony car pulls away down the hilly course. The 5.0-liter develops 480 horsepower (358 kilowatts) and connects to a 10-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
The Mach 1 will go on sale in spring 2021. Ford is not yet discussing pricing details.
