Mobile home based on the new Caddy suitable for everyday use

Completely redesigned interior

As comfortable to sleep as the larger California camping furniture models also on board

Hanover, July 30, 2020 – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles presents the first images and information for the successor to the Caddy Beach. The new Mini-Motorhome is based on the completely redesigned 5th generation of the Caddy. There are a host of new features. One example is the brand new bed concept which has been redesigned to provide greater versatility. The technology of the compact motorhome is definitely at the cutting edge of technology. And a touch of romance is also included, with the panoramic canopy providing a night under the stars.

Since 2005 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has been selling a compact mobile home based on the Caddy as a standard production model. From the start, the goal was to retain everyday utility and design equipment such as removable storage bags and bed nook. This is also true for the last generation. The little brother from California is an absolute all-rounder for the young family, sports enthusiasts and amateurs or the group known as “best agers”. In short, it is aimed at all those looking for maximum flexibility from their car, so that they can get started

the occasional spontaneous micro-adventure.

One of the new highlights is the ability to gaze at the stars through the 1.4 square meter panoramic glass roof before dozing off. Those who prefer to sleep in the dark or want to avoid being woken up by the sun in the morning can of course darken all windows, including the canopy. The disc spring elements, as also used in the California or Grand California beds, provide comfort while sleeping on the nearly two-meter-long bed.

Popular and lightweight California camping chairs and tables are neatly stowed away in the back. The two handy storage bags can be taken inside the house for easy loading. They also serve as privacy screens inside the vehicle when secured in the rear window sections.

The new Caddy has 19 assistance systems for comfort and safety while on the move. Among them is Travel Assist, which, for the first time, enables the assisted driving of a Volkswagen commercial vehicle over the entire speed range. Trailer Assist, which makes reversing maneuvering with a trailer considerably easier, as well as Side-Assist and Rear Traffic Alert, are also new to the Caddy and familiar to the Crafter and T-Series.

Like the driver assistance systems, the Caddy’s new four-cylinder engines are also innovative. They are the next step in engine development, meet 2021 Euro 6 emissions standards and are all fitted with particulate filters. The new dual dosing system is also used for the first time in TDI units – which have powers between 55 kW / 75 PS and 90 kW / 122 PS. Thanks to two SCR catalytic converters and therefore a double injection of AdBlue, the levels of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are considerably reduced compared to the previous model, making the Caddy’s TDI engines one of the engines cleanest diesel in the world.

An 84 kW / 116 hp turbocharged gasoline engine (TSI) is also efficient and durable.

The world premiere of the new compact motorhome is expected to take place almost at the beginning of September.

The Campervan is the ideal partner for a spontaneous micro-adventure.

The living space can be significantly expanded with a rear tent. The Mini-Camper therefore becomes a glamping lodge.

Sleeping comfort as in a California and, if desired, also under a 1.4 m2 panora roof.
