Volkswagen Golf MkVIII Variant and Alltrack Revealed for Europe
The Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen and Alltrack models perished in the United States after the 2019 model year. Now we only have to look from afar at the recently revealed MkVIII models: the Golf Variant (wagon) of the European market and Alltrack. Both display the design of the new Golf in a particularly impressive way. We’re crazy about the crossover, sure, but even die-hard SUVs might reluctantly admit that this is an attractive wagon.
Mechanically, these are just Golf MkVIIIs, so expect the same powertrain options as any other European Golf model. The Alltrack version includes, as you can imagine, VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system. A mild hybrid system known as “eTSI” available with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission available on the model.
The regular Golf MkVIII is available with a total of eight powertrain options, including five hybrids. It is not immediately clear whether the wagon will receive all of these power sources or a selection of them. Not that it makes or breaks buying decisions on this side of the pond.
