Toyota Actually Built This Bonkers One-Off RAV4 Limo
What’s the best-selling vehicle in America that isn’t a pickup truck? In 2019, Toyota sold 448,071 RAV4 SUVs, and nothing short of a global pandemic suggests the sales trend will slow. Some might say that the lack of a third row for passengers is a detractor, but the RAV4 would be quite cramped in such a configuration. It’s a Ordinary RAV4 would be cramped. The story of this interesting SUV quirk comes from the Japanese website Car watch, and yes, this is a Toyota product. It was built by an enterprising group of 200 during off-peak hours at Toyota’s Takaoka plant in Japan, where the RAV4 is built with the Corolla and the Harrier crossover for the Japanese market – soon to be the new Venza for North America. The conversion took over four months and, as you might expect, the biggest challenge was maintaining structural integrity. Adding around 32 inches of space in the middle doesn’t bode well for a unibody SUV, and while the end product doesn’t perfectly mimic the RAV4’s body lines, it’s a fully functional machine. . Why was this RAV4 limousine built? It was not an official Toyota company, but the manufacturer obviously knew about it. Project participants point to three distinct reasons, the first being the most human reason of all – the challenge.
