Prague, July 28, 2020: TORSUS, manufacturer of the toughest and most rugged off-road buses in the world, is set to cause a sensation in the commercial vehicle sector with TERRASTORM, a 4×4 off-road minibus. Available to order now, starting at € 57,461 (£ 52,290.95), the first deliveries of TERRASTORM will begin in Q3 2020 in left and right hand drive.

The TORSUS TERRASTORM 4×4, based on a Volkswagen Crafter / MAN TGE 4Motion chassis, is equipped with a EURO VI D 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine offered in two power versions, 140 hp (103 kW) and 340 Nm or 176 hp (130 kW) and 410 Nm, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Designed and manufactured in the TORSUS production plant in Slovakia, the heart of vehicle manufacturing in Central Europe, the team applied their expert knowledge gained during the production of the PRAETORIAN, the first off-road bus in series in the world, to design a new ultra-resistant 4×4 minibus. . Designed to transport people and goods to some of the world’s most inhospitable places, the TERRASTORM is reliable and pushes the commercial vehicle industry to new limits.

Test TORSUS Tough
Ensuring the reliability of a TORSUS product means putting the product to the test in testing. TERRASTORM has undergone a rigorous testing program at several test facilities in and around the Czech Republic and Slovakia, including the iconic Tatras proving ground. This ensures that the vehicle can withstand and handle beyond normal off-road use while still being usable and comfortable on the road. TERRASTORM is designed to be robust and tested for TORSUS.

Design
TERRASTORM is designed to be valuable for those looking for a vehicle that can do the heavy lifting on the job, but also great for family weekends. Specific body trims are designed not only to protect the vehicle’s lower panels, but also to create solutions to problems – like an integrated winch and a custom skid plate.

The vehicle is offered in two trim levels – TT1 Coach and TT2 Nomad, both of which include an upgraded chassis and off-road suspension, all-wheel drive with a locking rear differential, a winch integrated in the front bumper TORSUS capable of tow up to 5500 kg (5.5 tons), side steps, durable scratch resistant coating on the lower body panels and custom Duraluminium skid plate from engine and gearbox to rear differential and tank of fuel to avoid being damaged in inhospitable conditions. TT2 Nomad adds a front bull bar and metal grilles for rear lights, a roof rack with integrated lighting, a spare wheel carrier and a rear ladder.

The TORSUS bumper has been engineered to deliver enhanced off-road capability with better approach angles. It accommodates the LED high beams, daytime running lights, fog lights and spotlights as well as the built-in winch, which is only hidden away to be shipped when you really need it. As part of the lower protection, the custom 5mm Duraluminium skid plate protects the engine, radiator, transmission, rear axle, DPF filter, as well as fuel and AdBlue tanks from damage expensive off-road.

The off-road suspension has been improved to ensure optimum on and off-road capability. Up front, MacPherson struts and Bilstein B6 shocks provide optimum comfort. With the increase in ride height, the Ironman 4×4 adjustable camber bolts are fitted to provide ± 1.75 degree camber adjustment.

At the rear, the suspension is a combination of leaf springs fitted with the Ironman 4×4 Load Plus and optional Profender Dakar shocks with remote auxiliary reservoirs, extended axle travel. The combination of improved off-road suspension and rugged 17-inch BF Goodrich All Terrain T / A KO2 tires gives the TERRASTORM ground clearance of 290mm, approach and departure angles of 26 degrees and 20 degrees and a paddling depth of 690 mm. . Potential buyers have the option of selecting the “Deep Wave” pack allowing the TERRASTORM to travel up to 820 mm of water.

Interior
Inside, the TERRASTORM can accommodate 9 to 20 passengers in very comfortable seats, depending on the minibus variant, covered in fabric and eco-leather fitted with three-point seat belts. Each passenger seat is built on a solid frame and a skeleton made of 2 to 4 mm of sheet metal. The driver’s cockpit features a new touchscreen control panel above the infotainment system to control all interior heating, lighting, air conditioning and speaker system from a single unit, all by offering the driver an overview of the status of all equipment.

For more extreme configurations, TORSUS has created “extra active” seats with 5-point harnesses. Unlike most minibuses, the internal seating configuration of the TERRASTORM can be changed to “swivel seats” with multi-function tables, all on the TORSUS seat rail system. This means that the rows of seats can be positioned opposite each other using the multi-function tables and a customer can easily install modular components to convert a bus into a personal motorhome.

Above the seats is the innovative TORSUS Air Channel; a top-of-the-range luggage carrier offering each occupant individual lighting, air vents and speakers. The passenger cabin is lined with 30mm thermal insulation and the non-slip floor is made of 18mm high density water resistant board with 2mm PVC flooring to ensure it is easy to clean and can withstand harsh environments.

TERRASTORM can be configured in a number of ways to benefit the tourism, land, mining, ambulance, freight and special agency industries. The TORSUS team builds the MEDIVAC according to European or local regulations with the correct Battenburg markings as well as LED beacons on the roof, bumpers and mirrors, as well as a siren and an external speaker.
