These Cars Have The Best Infotainment Systems In The U.S., Study Finds

Truth be told, multimedia infotainment systems are now part of the standard package in new cars. It’s safe to say that these massive displays have become a big selling factor in vehicles these days, although we’ll say it’s not a landmark deal – at least not yet.

Now, if infotainment systems are some of the first you look at when shopping for a car, JD Power’s latest study should be of interest to you. These are the four cars that stand out in their corresponding segments – the Nissan Sentra, Genesis G70, Dodge Challenger and BMW X6, according to the data analytics company.

According to the recent American 2020 Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study, the Nissan Sentra is the best performing small / compact vehicle in terms of quality and satisfaction with its multimedia infotainment system. The Genesis G70, which will soon receive a new version in the US, tops the Small / Compact Premium segment. For larger vehicles, the Dodge Challenger leads the medium / large segment, while the BMW X6 has the best infotainment for the medium / large segment.

The study based its ratings on responses from 87,282 new model year 2020 car buyers and renters. Respondents were surveyed after 90 days of ownership, and the study was conducted from February to May 2020.

JD Power also points out that design issues were the main culprit in car owners’ dissatisfaction. And while over-the-air updates could be the key to fixing bugs that affect user experience, JD Power warns that they can potentially do more harm than good.

“This is of great concern given the rapid growth in remote update capabilities for infotainment and multimedia systems,” said Brent Gruber, senior director of global automotive quality at JD Power.

“In theory, the added convenience of solving notable industry issues on the fly sounds great, but manufacturers need to make sure the solution doesn’t create more headaches for homeowners in an already very problematic area. “
