Audi A3 Plug-In Hybrid

The New Audi A3 Joins The Range With A Plug-In Hybrid Variant

The Audi A3 Sportback, rival of other premium subcompact sedans such as the BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz A-Class, has just received a substantial update, adding new styling, updated interior and a plug-in hybrid option for those looking at a practical hatchback with durability in mind. We can also expect the new plug-in hybrid option to reach the A3 sedan as well. Now on to the good stuff.

The new Audi A3 40 TFSI e PHEV is powered by the familiar 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 148 horsepower. This combustion engine is mated to an 80 kW electric motor and creates a combined output of 210 horsepower (150 kW) and 258.1 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. This powers the front wheels via a lighter six-speed S tronic automatic transmission than before. In addition, the presence of the battery does not reduce the trunk space much to just 100 liters, while still retaining at least 280 liters of cargo space for the five-door hatchback compared to the ICE variants. The compact plug-in hybrid model goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.6 seconds to reach a top speed of 141.1 km / h and boasts an impressive electric-only range of 41 miles and 282 mpg. Expect the new Audi A3 40 TFSA e to be fully charged at home or on the road in just over four hours.

Audi Q3-esque design makes its way into the new Audi A3 Sportback, with a wider grille, redesigned headlights, hood adjustments and new air intakes. The rear also receives new taillights and a new bumper design. Overall, the new A3 is wider and slightly longer, giving off a more stocky and sporty stance. Specially designed 16 inch alloy wheels are standard and Audi supplies 17 or 18 inch wheels on request. Audi LED headlights are standard, with matrix LEDs available as an option. Standard equipment includes a digital instrument panel, multifunction leather steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control system. The 12.3 inch full-size digital instrument display is optional, with a color head-up display. As with the other variants of the new A3, you can expect an in-dash infotainment screen, new panels for climate functions and toggle switches, and a new infotainment rotary dial.

Audi’s Car-to-X software, which communicates with Audi traffic signs, infrastructure and other vehicles to provide real-time driving and parking information, will be included but will not be available at launch . The new 40 TFSI e Audi A3 Sportback will start at £ 33,060 ($ 42,760), which is £ 7,000 ($ 9,050) more than the cheaper A3 model, but the PHEV version is not offered in the entry-level Technik version. Customers can expect to receive their cars by the end of the year.
