Taycan GT Model Mentioned In Official Porsche Video

A strange nugget of information that the automaker hasn’t removed from the final coupe is buried deep in an official Porsche video – a single mention of a Taycan GT. The moment comes after famous Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay retires to the pits at the Silverstone circuit after smoking a Porsche 911 GT2 RS during a drag race in a Taycan Turbo S. We’ve never heard of such a model, so we heard it casually dropped by Kay piqued our interest.

Specifically, Kay says, at 5:58 am, “Lord only knows what happens when the Taycan GT comes out.” He laughs briefly before the video switches to another scene, but there is no further mention. We’ve reached out to Porsche about the Taycan GT and will update this story if we have any news. However, it seems strange that Porsche leaves the mention. Automakers are notoriously protected from information about future models, so announcing a Taycan GT like this is a special decision.

Then again, Kay could have invented the Taycan GT, speculating on Porsche’s plans, and the automaker could have intentionally left the mention in the video to throw potential speculators off the track of the automaker’s plans for the EV. We know there will be the long-roof Taycan Cross Turismo making its debut later this year. There are also rumors that a less expensive and less powerful rear-drive only model is in development, but we don’t expect Porsche to call it “GT”.

You could guess what a Taycan GT might imply if you look at other Porsche GT models. Efforts are often made to reduce the weight of the car while improving handling and performance. There was a hubbub about Porsche putting the Turbo name on the Taycan even though it lacked a turbocharger. However, the name refers to its position within the Taycan lineup, not its powertrain. Porsche could do the same with the GT name on the Taycan. But one wonders why Porsche would leave the mention of such a model in an official video.
