See Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta Receive A 100-Hour Topaz Detail
Topaz Detailing is a company synonymous with perfection. Its workers have perfected their craft over the years of experience and have the talent and precision to detail a car to its full potential. In his latest video, the master retailers polish and protect a Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta, a rare Ferrari worthy of Topaz treatment.
Although the factory paint of the 458 looks spectacular to the untrained eye, there is still room for improvement. According to Topaz, workers have spotted tiny imperfections in the transparent layer that distorts the reflections. Known as the orange peel effect, the only solution is to even out the tiny blemishes on the outside. Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of blemishes is to sand the clear coat, a necessary but painful process.
After initial dry sanding, workers begin to further refine the paint. The next step is to sand the entire car wet. While some of the larger panels could be made with a mechanical sander, the most minute features of the 458 are massaged by hand. Fortunately, it was the end of the sanding stage. With varnish imperfections taken care of, the next step was to remove the sanding marks from the paint.
After a completely crazy polishing program, the orange peel effect was gone and the Ferrari-Red paint looked like it should. Using the Topaz mantra to improve, protect and maintain, the next step was to apply a paint protective film. Unsurprisingly, the decorator uses a custom cut protective film unique to 458 that covers every inch of the car. Even the carbon fiber ducks in the front of the car are covered in film. Due to the film’s tiny pores, Topaz applies a ceramic coating to protect it. The ceramic will repel surface contaminants, making it much easier for the owner to maintain the hall’s luster.
