Porsche Bares Details On PDK-Equipped 718 Cayman GT4, Spyder, GTS 4.0
When Porsche revealed the changes to the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman for the 2021 model year – specifically in the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder and 718 Boxster / Cayman GTS 4.0 – the news came with an announcement that the long-awaited PDK for six-cylinder models are also arriving. The release, however, contained more of what you’ll spend to buy them rather than the numbers to back up the comparative claim.
Now is the time to indulge in the difference between PDK equipped models and their shifter counterparts.
According to Porsche, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder models with seven gears and optional dual clutch accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 3.7 seconds, which is much faster than the 4.2 seconds of their manual. counterparts. Meanwhile, PDK-equipped 718 Boxster / Cayman GTS 4.0 models accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds – again, faster than the manual’s 4.3 seconds.
All of the models mentioned here get more torque when fitted with PDKs, especially 8 lb-ft more than the standard 309 lb-ft (419 Newton-meters) of the 4.0-liter flat-six mill. naturally aspirated. They also all have a shorter seventh gear ratio (0.71 vs. 0.62) compared to other 718s equipped with PDKs.
Besides more torque, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder get more traction when equipped with PDKs. This is due to the limited slip differential operating with higher lockout values than with the manual transmission: 30% in traction and 37% in overshoot (compared to 22% and 27% with the manual transmission, respectively).
Porsche also added that the 718 Boxster / Cayman GTS 4.0 comes standard with the Sport Chrono Package, with an additional Sport Response button added to the steering wheel for those who opt for the PDK. Of course, the Auto Blip button present on the manual 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder will be replaced by a PDK Sport button.
