Next-Gen Nissan Rogue Sport Spied Up Close In Qashqai Clothes

The Nissan Rogue Sport has just received a modest refresh for the 2020 model year. So has the Nissan Qashqai, which is what the Rogue Sport is called outside of the US borders. The Qashqai arrived in the United States in 2017 as Rogue Sport, but overseas spy photographers have just seen a next-gen prototype in broad daylight.

This is just the second look we’ve had at the new model, and by far the clearest. The camouflage wrap and faux panels hide details, but the familiar Nissan grille clearly lives on. This will be the focal point of a redesigned front fascia that incorporates angular and similar lines to the current Nissan Juke, with a headlight layout more in line with the automaker’s other small crossover, the Kicks. The lenses need to be thinner, and the same can be said for the taillights which we can barely see through the casing. They should stretch further through the back door, although they likely won’t adopt the odd shapes and angles seen on Kicks.

In profile, the Rogue Sport’s prominent pleated-up waistband line at the C-pillar appears to have disappeared, although faux panels may obscure this design element. One thing not hidden is the overall size, as the new model appears to have the same footprint as the current SUV. This is backed up by rumors that the next-gen Rogue Sport will fight with the same CMF platform below, although it is expected to gain both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. With an infusion of electricity, the Qashqai version will likely lose its diesel engine option.

A photo in this series gives us a very small glimpse of the interior, although that’s not enough to get a glimpse of what the designers have in store. The next-gen crossover is expected to receive an all-new greenhouse with updated technology and materials. This will no doubt include a larger infotainment screen and possibly a new suite of driver assistance systems.

It is currently believed that Nissan will unveil its updated Qashqai at the end of this year as a 2021 model. It remains to be seen whether it is the United States at the same time as the new Rogue Sport.
