As work on the next-gen Rolls-Royce Ghost continues at full speed, the brand’s CEO, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, has decided to share an open letter with the media that – with a first glimpse of the model – serves from the first official teaser. The UK firm’s CEO said the company is moving ahead as planned with development despite the coronavirus outbreak, and the full launch of the new Ghost is slated for this fall.
Since its launch in 2009, the Ghost has become the most successful model in Rolls-Royce’s 116-year history, placing a lot of expectations on its successor. In order to build a product that will remain competitive and attractive for the next 10 years, the automaker has “had to listen very carefully” to the demands and desires of its customers. And the answer was simple: we would like the new Ghost to be opulent but minimalist in design, and still be a car that can be driven or driven.
Basically, that meant Rolls-Royce had to build a car from scratch – and that’s exactly the case with the new Ghost. Everything is ‘completely new’ apart from the Spirit of Ecstasy emblem and the integrated door umbrellas – these are the only components that will change from the current model to the new Ghost, everything else will be brand new.
“We have found that these [our] customers are showing a marked trend towards luxury items that celebrate reduction and restraint – which don’t scream, but rather whisper, ”says Müller-Ötvös. “They seek purity of design by rejecting obvious and unnecessary embellishments and overt complications. To complement this minimalism, our Ghost customers need innovative yet effortless technology and true engineering substance in their cars.
Rolls says it will be releasing a four-animation miniseries over the next few weeks, which should provide more small pieces for the new Ghost puzzle. The teasers will culminate this fall with the online premiere of the luxury model, which will be followed by customers and media players.
