The launch of the Audi RS3 Sportback and RS3 Sedan is certainly long in the tooth. As early as last year, we saw spy photos of the next-gen model prototype, performing tests primarily at the Nürburgring. The last time we saw the camouflaged RS3 Sedan prototype was just this week, but the RS3 Sportback was last seen in May.
Then again, the launch of the high-powered Audi A3 is still slated for the next four to six months, so yes, we’ll wait a bit longer.
Our anticipation will not be lost, however. Information was disclosed to Engine1 by Periodis Del Motor, a Spanish automotive website, regarding a little design detail on the upcoming RS3.
As you can see in the photo above, the LED Matrix configurations of the entire Audi A3 range have been shown. The photo, which appears to have been taken in an exclusive presentation, shows the RS3 in the lower right corner. Interestingly, the flagship will feature a checkered flag as part of its details, which sets the A3 performance apart from the rest of the range.
This coincides with the A3 sedan launched in April and previous spy shots for the RS3 sedan. The DRL has a corner box (see the main image at the top of this page), made up of LEDs in a three by five configuration. According to the report, these diodes can operate variably, which means that each of the cars in the A3 range can be identified by this little design detail.
Take this with a bit of skepticism, however. While the authenticity of the image above cannot be confirmed, we believe this little design detail will surprise us in the production body of the Audi RS3.
We’ll find out more about the Audi RS3 when it launches in the first half of next year. As they say, patience is a virtue.
