It’s no surprise that detailed videos have been on the rise lately. Whether it’s cleaning dirty interiors, thoroughly correcting paintwork, or even a complete paint job, the automotive subgenre is booming. In his latest video, Alex Palmeri of LegitStreetCars presents the transformation of his 2005 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG from zero to hero.
After purchasing a 234,964 kilometer (146,000 mile) Mercedes-Benz, it was clear from the start that the paint on the hood was too far away to revert to its factory finish. Following a detailed inspection by workers at Chicago Auto Pros’ retail shop, workers began removing the body panels. The first big job was to swap the front cover for a slightly newer unit from an E63. We’ll let you choose the new look, but the original front cover was in very poor condition.
With a fresh coat of paint, the new car panels immediately received minor fixes and were prepared for a paint protection film. After seeing the rock chips on the original front facade, another layer of protection seemed to be obvious. Chicago Auto Pro employees then installed a layer of XPEL film and got to work on the rest of the car.
Once the new panels matched the vehicle’s original color, workers were able to begin correcting the original paint. After quite a bit of work on the remaining panels of the car, things started to improve. The transition from the front dash to the rest of the car was not so obvious anymore.
Before the exterior reveal at the end of the video, every millimeter of the car was given a new layer of ceramic coating. While Palmeri was blown away by the end result, do give us your feedback in the comments below.
