The first five months of this year saw several observations of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series – the future high-end of the AMG GT range. While the frequency of prototype testing means an imminent start, a new report has come out saying it will start next month.
The report came from MB Passion Blog, noting that the AMG GT Black Series goes on sale in July 2020, which supports the previous report in November of last year.
As a reminder, Michael Knöller, global head of product management and sales for AMG, confirmed with Road and track that the track-oriented GT will debut this year, with production starting in late 2020. We did not expect, however, to start as early as July.
With said approximate launch month, MB Passion Blog speculates that China will be the launching pad for the ultimate AMG GT, particularly at the Chengdu Motor Show scheduled for July 24, 2020.
Take this with a hint of salt, as this is purely based on speculation from the German publication based on the proximity of the possible launch date to the Chinese auto show.
As expected, Mercedes declined to comment on the MB Passion Blog investigation into the possible launch date and location of the AMG GT Black Series.
The next AMG GT Black Series would be powered by a twin-turbo V8 developing 711 horsepower (530 kilowatts) and 800 Newton meters (590 lb-ft). This makes it more powerful than the AMG GT R coming out of 134 hp and 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).
If we are to believe this recent report, we will know if these figures are true with more details very soon.
