Mercedes-AMG GT 73e Spied Testing Flat Out At The Nurburgring
At the launch of the new 2021 Panamera last month, it broke the record for the fastest executive car on the Nürburgring – a distinction the AMG GT 63 S held for almost two years. Mercedes hit back at Porsche weeks later, teasing that the automaker would return to the ‘Ring’ more likely to regain its crown.
Looks like the silent war in Stuttgart is advancing as a 73rd AMG GT was spotted warming up Green Hell by YouTube. super cars. At this point, it’s only a matter of time before Mercedes announces a new lap record with the debut of the four-door hybrid coupe – if at all.
Identified as a hybrid model by the yellow sticker, the 73rd GT is expected to produce around 800 horsepower (597 kilowatts), drawing motivation from its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and electric motor. Of note, this is a huge leap forward from the 630 hp (470 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of the GT 63 S.
With these numbers presented, Panamera’s record-breaking ‘Ring run might be short-lived, but that has yet to be formalized by Mercedes. If that’s any indication, the above spy video looks promising and we can’t wait for the hybrid model’s impending debut.
Speaking of its debut, you could say that the AMG GT 73rd (its so-called nickname) has been slow in coming since the first reports of the electrified model were released last year. We’ve spotted its production-ready prototype a few times already, so it’s more likely that a launch is imminent, possibly towards the end of the year.
As always, we’ll be keeping an eye on any development, so watch this space.
