The first customer-ordered examples of the new McLaren 765LT are now hand assembled at the McLaren production center in Woking, UK. Deliveries of the new McLaren “Longtail” – the most extreme McLaren Super Series model to date – will begin at the end of this month.
Only 765 individually numbered cars will be offered worldwide on customer order, with 2020 production fully allocated and expressions of interest far exceeding total production.
The McLaren 765LT incorporates all of McLaren LT’s renowned attributes, including driver engagement, reduced weight, track-oriented dynamics, optimized aerodynamics and increased power. A comprehensive engineering program of weight reduction allowed the super light 765LT to tip the scale to 176 lbs * lighter than the already class-leading 720S. The 765LT’s bespoke aerodynamics include carbon fiber panels first manufactured at the McLaren Composites Technology Center in the Sheffield area, as well as an active ‘Longtail’ rear spoiler.
The combination of light weight (2,709 lbs. At minimum dry weight) and the extreme power and torque of the McLaren twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine – 755 hp and 590 lb-ft respectively – underpins the incredible acceleration. from 765LT. In addition to the expected 0-60 mph below three seconds, the new LT is capable of reaching 124 mph from standstill in just 7.0 seconds – 0.2 seconds ahead of target. Equally impressive is the standing quarter-mile acceleration at 9.9 seconds – again, better than expected.
The first examples of cars specified by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) are shared with customers. Operating on its established principle of always pushing the art of the possible, MSO has created a number of innovative and complex painting techniques that present a whole new level of possibilities for customization.
The Strata theme unveils a unique and graphic “art in motion” paint scheme, inspired by a city skyline and done in a tri-color design requiring 390 hours of hand painting and finishing. Strata’s Azores Orange base color is merged with Memphis Red and Cherry Black, with the two overlay colors crossing the paint scheme in opposite directions to meet and blend into the 765LT’s dihedral door panels. The unique paint scheme is further enhanced by a consistent design language throughout the car, inside and out. Brake calipers are part of the color mix, with the front calipers being Volcano Red and the rears Azores Orange, while the interior benefits from a host of color-coded features from the MSO Bespoke range, including a seat perforation. orange and a push-to-drink system in Memphis Red.
A second theme based on a honeycomb 3D theme called “ GEOHEX ” features a striking combination of MSO Bespoke Tarmac Black and Tokyo Cyan paint with Visual Carbon Fiber components from the MSO Defined range as well as a certain number of corresponding interior details. One of the most exciting projects to date is a car with a full visual carbon fiber (VCF) body, a demo model of which has already been produced in response to customer requests. The demo model was constructed of bright, clear carbon fiber to demonstrate the purity and complexity of the weave alignment. The 765LT MSO Custom Carbon Fiber Body is available in a number of bespoke shades, the complexity of which may vary depending on the intended design.
