Maserati MC20 Debuts Today: See The Livestream Here
It is finally “time to be bold”. After a long wait, Maserati is about to present a brand new car powered by an engine developed in-house. The MC20 will break later today to signal what the Modena-based sports car maker hopes will be the legendary brand’s resurgence, supported by a promising product roadmap in the years to come.
The mid-engined supercar has been obsessed and obsessively teased for the past few months, before today’s big debut. We have seen it from every possible angle, hiding its attractive Italian design under the camouflage that has also been applied to the engine cover. Underneath, we already know that at the heart of the MC20 is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 dubbed “Nettuno” for 630 horsepower and 538 pound-feet (730 Newton-meters) of torque.
As well as developing the supercar with a good ol ‘combustion engine, Maserati is also designing the MC20 to accommodate a fully electric powertrain. It is expected to arrive later in the life cycle, with a convertible version already confirmed for its debut in 2021. In fact, every new model from now on, whether it’s a facelift or a car from new generation, will offer a pure electrical derivative.
While the MC20 isn’t as hardcore as the MC12 before it, Maserati called the new model a “natural evolution.” There are additional models to come from the legendary marque, including the next-gen GranTurismo and GranCabrio confirmed for a 2021 version. Also next year a small crossover sling under the Levante will be launched, having debuted in spy photo at the end of August.
The “MMXX: Time to be Audacious” event will take place on the Modena track in Italy from 2:35 PM EDT / 6:35 PM GMT.
