Modena, July 16, 2020 – The spark of electrification sets fire to the future of Maserati: with the new Ghibli Hybrid, the Trident brand enters the world of electrification.
The new Ghibli Hybrid represents one of the most ambitious projects for Maserati which, after the announcement of the new engine of the super sports MC20, now sets the seal on a new step towards the new era of the brand.
The choice to introduce hybrid technology on the Ghibli sedan is no coincidence: this model, with more than 100,000 units produced since its launch in 2013, perfectly embodies the DNA of the Modena-based manufacturer.
In fact, the challenge Maserati faced was to enter the world of electrification without altering the brand’s philosophy and core values. The result? The creation of the best possible hybrid. In addition, Ghibli Hybrid will retain the unmistakable sound that has always distinguished each Maserati.
The arrival of the new hybrid Ghibli thus widens the Maserati range, which is now even more competitive and responsive to market requirements.
Ghibli Hybrid is instantly recognizable, in part thanks to the new exterior and interior design. The common denominator of restyling, developed by the Centro Stile Maserati, is the color blue, chosen to identify all cars with hybrid technology and the new world they represent.
On the outside, the blue color characterizes the three emblematic lateral air ducts, the brake calipers and the thunderbolt in the oval that surrounds the Trident on the rear pillar. The same blue color reappears inside the car, especially on the embroidered seams of the seats. The new Ghibli Hybrid also introduces new stylistic content, starting from the new grille, with bars redesigned to represent a tuning fork, a musical device which emits an extremely pure sound, and which also evokes the Trident symbol itself . There are major changes to the rear of the car, where the light beams have been completely restyled, with a boomerang-like profile inspired by the 3200 GT and the concept car Alfieri.
In perfect harmony with its DNA, Maserati chose a hybrid solution mainly focused on improving performance, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Hybrid technology harnesses the kinetic energy that a car accumulates when it is in motion, recovering and transforming it into electricity during deceleration and braking, and storing it in a battery.
The innovative powertrain, the result of in-depth technical development work by the technicians and engineers of the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena, combines an internal combustion engine (4 cylinders, turbo, 2.0 l displacement) with a 48 alternator. volts and an electric compressor (e-Booster), supported by a battery. Unique in its segment, this solution is the first in a new generation of powertrains, with the perfect compromise between performance, efficiency and driving pleasure.
The battery is mounted on the back of the car, with advantages in terms of improved weight distribution.
This version weighs about 80 kg less than Diesel.
Thanks to a maximum power of 330 hp and a torque of 450 Nm delivered from just 1,500 rpm, the performance of the new Ghibli Hybrid is very impressive: top speed of 255 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.7 seconds.
The occupants of Ghibli Hybrid will always be able to enjoy the incomparable sound that characterizes all Maserati models, thanks to the optimized exhaust, which includes specially designed resonators.
Ghibli Hybrid also marks the debut of the new Maserati Connect program, which allows a constant connection with the car: the exchange of information continues on the move, to improve the services offered to the driver. In addition to updating the firmware, the system performs checks on the car and monitors security and safety services in the event of an emergency.
The Maserati Intelligent Assistant multimedia system is of the latest generation, based on digital inputs from Android Automotive, software that offers an innovative user experience that can be fully personalized according to the driver’s personal preferences. The HD screen of the multimedia system, with new graphics, more user-friendly and unframed, is increased from 8 ”4 to 10” 1. A new dashboard with digital devices and new graphics is also introduced.
The new Ghibli Hybrid represents the first step in a plan that will lead to the electrification of all new Maserati models. The brand’s first 100% electric cars will be the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio, scheduled for 2021.
