Lotus To Open New Advanced Technology Center
Lotus continues to expand in the UK with the announcement of the establishment of a new cutting edge technology center on the Wellesbourne campus of the University of Warwick. The plant will house Lotus’s consulting division, Lotus Engineering, and represents a new partnership between Lotus and WMG (formerly Warwick Manufacturing Group) at the University of Warwick.
It comes after adding a new manufacturing site close to its existing head office in Hethel, Norfolk, and a new assembly hall right next to its test track.
“This is a big step forward for Lotus and our engineering consulting firm,” said Matt Windle, executive director of engineering at Lotus Cars. “The new space, facilities and employment opportunities at Wellesbourne will be in high demand as we are rapidly building our portfolio of external projects.”
The new facility will include offices, laboratories and workshops, and will house 130 engineers to complement the 500-person engineering team at Hethel.
“Wellesbourne offers an excellent facility, with a lot of potential for expansion, and will be the perfect home for our new cutting-edge technology center,” said Phil Popham, CEO of Lotus. “Our engineering and R&D strategy around advanced propulsion systems aligns with the government’s vision and broader global ambitions for a low-carbon automotive future.
