The end of the road is on the horizon for the Subaru WRX and WRX STI. The rally sedan is slated for a complete overhaul, which would be heavily influenced by the Viziv concept from the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.
To cut down on waiting time, Subaru has already released special edition WRX and STI models. The latest is the Subaru WRX Club Spec – limited to Australia and could just as easily be the region’s last hurray.
The limited edition WRX Club Spec has a few sporty elements to enhance the appeal of the outgoing model. On the exterior, it receives a set of 18-inch STI alloy rims fitted with high-performance Brembo brake calipers, limited to manual transmission variants. It will also receive a matte black Club Spec badge on the back.
Inside, the WRX Club Spec gets Recaro sport bucket seats for the driver and front passenger, as well as the Ultrasuede steering wheel from more expensive WRX STI models. A set of eight Harman-Kardon speakers, a subwoofer and an amplifier complete the cabin, along with a numbered Club Spec badge.
The WRX Club Spec is limited to just 150 units, available in manual and CVT. The price is, of course, a bit higher than the regular WRX, with a difference of up to AUD 7,500 (around $ 5,300 at current exchange rates). Color choices include WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica, and Crystal White Pearl.
The next-gen WRX is expected to arrive in 2021, with a recent report telling us that it will be powered by a high-output 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, which would be tuned up to 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts). ) and 361 lb-ft (490 Newton-meters) of torque.
