Here’s a question that we bet is burning a hole in your automotive mind. What would happen if Land Rover made a pickup truck? Better yet, what if that pickup was a gnarly off-roader tied to the Defender? This is a question you’ve been thinking about for some time, whether you realize it or not.
Now the question is answered and we have Samirs Customs on Instagram to thank for it. Over the past few days, we’ve seen several IG accounts showcasing such a Defender, and we couldn’t resist sharing them. The detail work seen here is exceptional and as such there is no doubt for a Defender. And yet, with the front seats and windshield perched forward where the hood should be, it’s amazing how natural this conversion feels. Besides sitting on top of the engine, it honestly sounds like a lot of fun for an adventure machine off the beaten track.
For the record, we understand that turning a classic Defender into a minibus with taxi might be sacrilege for some. Few vehicles in automotive history enjoy such a dedicated group of followers as the brave Defender, but we don’t see this as an affront to its heritage. Rather, it’s a neat combination of quirky #vanlife with overtones of adventurous adventure, all wrapped up in packaging that’s as cute as it is capable of going just about anywhere.
What was the motivation for this creation? Instagram posts don’t really explain the method behind the madness, but it is described as a “camper and adventurer’s dream.” With the large roof rack packed with supplies on a short wheelbase two-door Defender, that would indeed be crazy handy in off-road situations. The van with cabin layout also means there’s room for more people inside, but we shudder at the maintenance nightmares that await the driver and passengers with the engine buried under it. inside.
Still, we’d give this eccentric Van Defender a try, and we bet you would, too. More renderings of this interesting idea are available at the source link below.
