Kith of Power: BMW Partners With Kith on Hypebeast M4 Special Edition
If you have the feeling that the major automakers are collaborating more than usual with streetwear designers lately, you are right. Virgil Abloh recently teamed up with Gordon Wagner, Mercedes-Benz design honcho, to reinvent the classic G-Wagen. Now BMW has done something similar (albeit less drastic) with an icon of its own. Discover the 2021 BMW M4 Competition X Kith.
Like Abloh’s Off-White, Kith is a streetwear brand known primarily for its shoes and menswear. The man behind the brand, Ronnie Fieg, is both a designer and passionate about BMW. But instead of just getting to work on some new BMW-inspired clothing, Fieg decided to try his hand at tuning the all-new 2021 BMW M4 Competition.
While its changes don’t do much for the M4’s grille, there are ‘Kith’ details all over the car that could do enough to distract you from it. There are Kith badges on the trunk lid, as well as on the center console, on the seats, and a huge Kith logo (prefixed by the tricolor BMW M stripes) on the roof of the M4. There is also the word “Kith” all over the back of the seats and on the center console cover. An interesting touch.
The number of cars has been limited to just 150 units and will be available in three different matte finishes: Frozen Black, Frozen Dark Silver or Frozen Brilliant White. The matte red M4 pictured here was the design study of Fieg’s creation, but the red will not be part of limited production. Kith also worked with BMW to create a new logo. The classic cockade has been redone and now sports a black Kith logo in addition to the BMW M stripes.
No other changes have been made to the M4 Competition beyond the Kith visuals, which means you still get the same 500-horsepower 3.0-liter biturbo inline-six under the hood that pushes power to all four. wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. transmission. This formula feels quite different from the other, much older Kith-designed M car that BMW is showing here.
BMW has restored Fieg’s personal original M3 and turned it into a unique BMW x Kith E30. Looks like he just came out of the showroom floor, and the desire is real. If we had to choose between a 2021 M4 with Kith stickers on it and a brand new E30 M3 with a Kith kiss, we wouldn’t even hesitate to go for the last century’s offer.
