A photo recently appeared on Instagram showing a strange BMW M4 with a different fender and stacked exhausts mounted in the center. Now a photographer from @audikind has managed to snap a few more photos and share them with a source of our usual spy photos, including a preview up front.
Our best guess at the moment is that this is the GTS variant of the new M4. Compared to the standard coupe, this one sports a more aggressive front fascia with even larger entrances at the corners. There is also a larger divider below. The sills also seem to stand out more.
The vertical elements of the grille can also be a little different. The style of this section on the standard M4 flares outward to the top, then tapers inward. This vehicle appears straighter in it, but it could just be a camouflage or photo angle thing.
In the back, things get weird. As in the previous photo, the vehicle has four centrally mounted exhausts in a strange two-tier arrangement. The top pairs are closer together than the bottom pairs. The modified layout also requires a different styling for the diffuser, and there are extensions that surround the bumper.
There’s a wing at the rear rather than the tiny trunk lid spoiler of the standard M4. It is a fairly lean piece and has small fins on each end.
The standard M3 and M4 debut on September 24. Don’t look for the GTS to be there, however. Given that sales of the regular variants probably won’t start until early 2021, we don’t expect BMW to unveil this hotter variant until mid-year at the earliest, and it could easily be later. that.
