Each summer, the magnificent countryside of West Sussex comes alive with the thrill of racing engines at full throttle, as Goodwood hosts two of the largest and most renowned motorsport events in the world; the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and the Revival. Unfortunately, neither is able to progress this year due to the global pandemic. Instead, inspired by the sights and sounds loved by fans of the two events, Goodwood will launch a unique new opportunity in motorsport in October.

Goodwood Speedweek presented by Mastercard will take the greatest elements of the festival and renewal, and combine them into an essential three-day extravagance. Staged behind closed doors at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, Speedweek will be optimized for broadcast, placing motorsport fans at the heart of the action wherever they are in the world. Building on a climax on Sunday, a competition that will never be repeated will see some of the fastest cars in the history of motorsport vying for honors in a winning shot on a lap. Modern cars have never competed at Goodwood, so the speeds they reach will be unlike anything we’ve seen before on the iconic site. Goodwood’s official lap record has been around for 55 years and with modern cars that will probably never come back, it’s entirely possible that the times recorded at Speedweek will remain unmatched for the next 55…

During Speedweek, Goodwood will be the epicenter of the automotive world, as the major manufacturers launch their latest cars to a global audience. Breathtaking supercars will be put to the test around the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit, while technology will also take center stage, while FOS Future Lab provides a tantalizing glimpse of tomorrow’s mobility. Bonhams, a Goodwood partner ubiquitous since the very first Festival of Speed in 1993, will host an online auction this weekend, with visits by appointment only to Goodwood from Wednesday to Friday.

The most ambitious event ever held at Goodwood, Speedweek will be broadcast in an innovative way, putting viewers directly in the racing seat, with layers of interactivity that create an immersive experience not to be missed. Without spectators present, the action can be faster, more extreme and even more spectacular than ever. It will redefine the experience of watching motorsport at home in the same way that the Festival of Speed and Revival has forever changed the perception of classic car events. The program of events and the full list of drivers will be announced in the weeks and months to come.

The Duke of Richmond said, “Having made the heartbreaking decision not to host the Festival of Speed and Revival this year, we were determined to find a way to bring motorsport to Goodwood in 2020. Speedweek will be an event unique. – a lifetime opportunity – the fastest, most exciting and most spectacular event we have ever organized. I was overwhelmed by the positivity and support from our partners and friends. In particular, I am delighted that Mastercard, which has been the main partner of the Festival of Speed since 2017, is also the main partner of Speedweek; and Bonhams, who have held their auctions at Goodwood every year since 1993, will join us. An unprecedented event, Goodwood Speedweek will be an appropriate celebration of the spirit of the Festival of Speed and Revival, which will both return, bigger and better than ever, in 2021. ”
