Dodge Challenger Super Stock Does Drag Things In First Video Footage

Dodge loves drag racing. When the Challenger SRT Hellcat came out a few years ago, there was a lot of talk about its supercharged V8 engine of 707 horsepower (527 kilowatts) in the quarter mile. Then came the Demon, a legal drag racer on the street with a specialized suspension and even more power. We now have the Challenger Super Stock, and although it’s not as powerful or fast as the Demon, it’s still a monster.

It is one thing to read the statistics on a page and browse a photo gallery. Seeing a car in action brings it all together, and that’s what we have in the Dodge video above that gives us a taste of the capabilities of Super Stock. With the heating up of standard Nitto radials, the automaker claims that the 807 hp (602 kW) Super Stock Challenger can reach 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and cover a quarter in 10.5 seconds, reaching 131 mph. h in the process.

Unfortunately, this extended video does not take place in a real tread, so until the Super Stocks are in the hands of the public, we will have to wait and see if these numbers are legitimate. If you remember, Dodge said its demon could travel a quarter-mile of 9.65 seconds, but almost all of the customer-owned cars captured by the camera on the Strip had trouble breaking the 10-second barrier. Dodge was finally justified when a demon owner finally reached – and slightly exceeded – the automaker’s time in December 2019. In ideal conditions with a perfect launch, the demon delivered.

The Super Stock 10.5 second time is almost a second behind the Demon despite a relatively small power difference, and it seems like a realistic number to hit. Coincidentally, it’s also a bit faster than Ford’s 10.7-second claim for the Shelby GT500, although we’ve seen Shelbys in stock running 10.61. In other words, we can’t wait to see these two cars lined up for side-by-side racing.
