The Nissan GT-R is well known in the drag world as the basis for some of the fastest and most efficient vehicles on the strip. We have seen several powerful, fast GT-Rs and today’s example is no different. In fact, it’s – it’s faster than all of them.
In the video at the top of this page, you can watch a record achieved by Sydney-based Maatouks Racing. Brought to our attention for the first time by DragNews, the record was achieved with the team’s Metro GTR, a heavily modified GT-R of the R32 generation. It’s not a legal machine on the street, but its quarter-mile is absolutely incredible – 6.472 seconds at 219.94 miles per hour recorded at the Sydney Dragway.
Immediately after the record, the team can be heard celebrating their feat wildly. As DragNews reports, not only because of the weather itself, but also because they promised the owner of the car that it would happen. Sam ‘Metro’ Youssef, who died last year in a car accident, was the former owner of the GT-R.
“We promised him that his car would be the top car for AWD supremacy,” said Maatouks Racing on Facebook. “This promise came true, but we didn’t just give him a disc as he asked, we took a bunch of discs during our quest. The first disc we took was for the most GT-R fast, i.e. any GT-R or Skyline Secondly, we naturally took the record for the fastest R32 Skyline, the third for the fastest all-wheel drive, then the rest dropped: IRS import the fastest, fastest import on radials, fastest and fastest automatic RB, and also fastest from Australia on a 275 radial. “
