You may remember a spy video from a few weeks ago that showed a Mach-E – or at least part of a Mach-E – doing everything possible to destroy its tires. In this case, we used the term spy video very loose, as the clip felt less like a sneaky trip to a closed test area and more like a staged encounter. Now we have a Twitter post from Ford Performance teasing a Mach-E … er … destroying its tires. Coincidence?
The timing of this spy video and teaser is certainly handy to say the least. The photo itself may offer clues, as the background looks a bit like the video. For the record, the location was pinned to the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research; a place that has been visited by Ford in the past. By the way, RTR Vehicles also has some ties to the location, and RTR released a teaser a few days ago suggesting something crazy with the Mach-E. So what’s up?
It remains to be seen, but we don’t have long to wait. It is clear that shenanigans are underway with Ford Performance and RTR because both the teasers indicate that July 21 is judgment day. It’s tomorrow as of this post’s upload, but all we have to go on to get the information is what we see in this photo. And what do we see? The smoke from the tires – in great quantity – and the unmistakable front clip of a Mustang Mach-E. Admittedly, this version has a bit more lead up front than the typical street model, as we see a very prominent splitter with fins galore and flared front fenders.
A Ford Performance windshield banner is barely visible, and Chewed up is inscribed on the hood. There’s something else on the hood after, but we can’t quite figure it out. It appears to be a number, which could be range or power. We go out onto a branch and say this car doesn’t give a tear on range because it emits enough tire smoke to create its own microclimate.
Any thoughts on what this Mach-E might do? You better tell us now, because tomorrow the mystery will be solved.
