According to an insider, only 400 units of the BMW M2 CS will arrive in the United States. BMW Blog. However, the source indicates that the company still determines the exact number to bring. Some of these examples are expected to arrive in the United States before the end of the year.
The M2 CS uses the 3.0-liter S55 in-line engine that develops 444 horsepower (327 kilowatts) and 406 foot-pounds (550 Newton meters) of torque. Customers can choose between a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. This configuration allows the model to reach 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 3.8 seconds for the DCT or 4.0 seconds for the manual. Both have a top speed of 174 mph (280 km / h).
BMW is also installing many performance-oriented equipment to make the M2 CS special. It comes standard with an Active M differential and an Adaptive M suspension. The front divider, hood, roof, rear wing mirrors, diffuser and center console of the cabin are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The vehicle runs on 19-inch black wheels, but they are also available in more eye-catching matte gold. The list of options includes M Carbon Ceramic brakes and Michelin Cup 2 tires.
Inside, there are thick reinforcement seats. Alcantara covers parts of the chairs, dashboard and steering wheel.
The M2 will soon disappear in Europe for reasons of emissions. Cleaning the S55 engine would be too big an investment, especially when the company could invest that money in a newer, cleaner engine. The good news is that this is a temporary layoff. A new generation of M2 would arrive in 2022.
