June is LGBTQ + Pride Month in the United States and 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the occasion. The coronavirus pandemic has put a stop to traditional celebrations, but BMW is showing its support for the LGBTQ + community with a cool and colorful Series 8 convertible wrapped in pride.
The news comes from BMW’s official U.S. Twitter account and suggests that something more is coming to celebrate Pride Month. What it could be exactly at this point is unknown, and BMW is a mom on future plans. Presumably, it will involve this special M850i, which also carries the updated BMW logo as part of the envelope on the hood.
This is not the first time that BMW has dressed up its droptop of the 8 series with a rainbow trim for LGBTQ + Pride. A white M850i created by renowned designer Jonathan Adler arrived in New York last year for the city’s Pride Walk. This year’s parade was canceled due to a coronavirus, but a virtual parade is still planned for June 28 to celebrate the golden anniversary of this first march in 1970. Many celebrities will be part of the event , who this year will also salute front-line workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic that hit New York City particularly hard.
If history repeats itself, BMW will likely play a bigger role in this year’s virtual parade. Last year, a fleet of colorful Adler 8-series convertibles transported VIPs from the parade through the streets, leading a group of more than 100,000 through the Big Apple. Of course, with this year’s event taking place in a virtual realm, there will be no fleet of cars carrying large marshals. But a show of colorful force – in real life or on screen – is definitely something that will grab attention and draw attention to this special 50th anniversary event.
