Automotive Designer Reimagines Citroen DS As A Modern Luxury Sedan
The Citroën DS has defined French luxury cars for decades as a design icon that is still revered today as one of the most unique cars to ever reach production. The unique shape of the Citroën DS was both aerodynamic and stylish, resulting in an exterior that transcends time and still looks quite modern today. Car designer Sang Won Lee known as sangtheowl on Instagram has set out to create a modern take on the Citron DS and the results are astounding.
The Citroën DS was produced from 1955 to 1975 as an executive luxury vehicle in sedan, wagon and convertible configurations. This luxury front-wheel drive car was created to handle France’s rugged roads while offering engine options that were not subject to higher taxes based on displacement. The Citroën DS used a unique hydraulic suspension system that could absorb even the roughest roads and provide customers with a smooth ride. Citroën DS were used to film horse races as a chase car because it could keep the camera steady on gravel roads outside the track. The Citroën DS was also superb on long distance rallies and won the Monte Carol rally in 1959 and 1966.
The Citroën DS is exactly what modern car buyers need with its distinct styling and commitment to using new technology. Sang Won Lee’s reinvented DS retains the distinctive exterior features of the DS while modernizing the design to create something new. The modernized DS retains the presence of the old car while adding modern car design elements to create the perfect blend of new and old.
A new Citroën DS is the antidote we need to fight the annoying movers we have come to accept. In today’s transitional car market, a modern electric Citroën DS would be a welcome addition.
