Arteon, Wayne: The Volkswagen Flagship’s Cost of Entry Rises for 2021

Volkswagen is making significant changes to the Arteon for 2021. In addition to its reworked front end, the premium VW features an improved interior with improved technology. The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon hits dealerships before the end of the year with a base price of $ 38,190. That’s $ 1,175 more than the 2020 model.

It also means that the 2021 Arteon is a bit more expensive than a base 2021 Kia Stinger ($ 34,125). It’s slightly cheaper than the entry-level 2021 Acura TLX ($ 38,525), however. The Arteon may also be fine if you’re looking for an alternative to the 2021 Lexus ES, which starts at $ 40,925.

All Arteon models come standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Power is channeled to the front wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission. That said, all-wheel drive is available.

Take a look inside the cockpit and you’ll see that Volkswagen has redesigned the Arteon’s dashboard and added some new trim details. A 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster is now standard, along with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that uses the brand’s latest MIB 3 interface. Other standard perks include leatherette seats, heated front seats, three-zone automatic climate control and two USB-C ports.

Starting at $ 42,790, the SEL R-Line adds a panoramic sunroof, wireless device charger and translucent decor with multi-colored interior lighting. It also gets sporty exterior design details such as a more aggressive fairing and a glossy black rear spoiler. The more expensive version is the SEL Premium R-Line, which costs $ 48,190 and comes standard with a massaging driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an upgraded Harman Kardon audio system and all-wheel drive.
