Alleged BMW 2 Series Leaked Images Could Preview U.S.-Bound Model

At the start of last month, we witnessed the BMW 2 Series Coupe prototype test for the first time in Mexico. This is the latest generation of the long-awaited rear-wheel drive BMW, and many fans and purists have praised the fact that it will remain happy for the revamped model – unlike the four-door 2 Series Gran Coupe, but I takes me away from the subject.

This time around, nude images of the alleged upcoming Series 2 coupe have surfaced, as posted by an Instagram user Wilcoblok. The social media post contains two images, the front and the rear of the car, and a lot can be inferred if we are to believe the authenticity.

First of all, these undisguised photos align with previously leaked images that were released last April. The non-giant grille is there (hurray!), As well as the aggressively styled bumper and dimples. What differs this time is what appear to be moving flaps of an active grille found on larger BMWs. It appears to be completely closed in the photo above.

And oh, do you see those orange markers on the wheel arch? This could mean that we are reviewing the 2 Series Coupe to American specs. But then again, we could be wrong, so take this speculation with a healthy dose of skepticism.

The back image (swipe right on the embedded image above or go to the actual Instagram post) doesn’t reveal much. The photo is in black and does not have a rear badge, although we could see that this purported prototype has dual exhaust tips and a trunk lip spoiler, indicating to us that it could be the M420i coupe.

Adopting the CLAR 3 Series platform and expected to carry an inline six under its hood, the upcoming two-door Series 2 is set to debut next year. The regular and M Performance variant will likely be revealed first. Expect M2 by 2022, the earliest.
