TANNER FOUST DRIVE THE BATTERY-POWERED MINIVAN OPTIMA AS A “ FASTEST STREET LEGAL MINIVAN ”
OPTIMA® Batteries, a leading brand of Clarios, set the record for the fastest legal minivan. Tanner Foust, the new OPTIMA PowerPro Ambassador, drove a Mercedes Benz R63 AMG, powered by an OPTIMA Batteries YELLOWTOP H6, for a 1 mile stretch to the title of the fastest minivan on the streets on August 7. Foust drove the van at a record speed of 165.5 mph. Weistec Engineering helped design the road-approved minivan, which featured their Stage 2 M156 supercharger, producing 700 horsepower.
“I raced in all types of cars, but never in a van. I can’t wait to get out there and prove that minivans can burn rubber too, ”said Foust, four-time X Games gold medalist for RallyCross and Gymkhana, and two-time Formula Drift champion. “I’m bringing my complete dad joke book for this ride!”
The title attempt for the fastest legal minivan on the streets will take place this year at the Sandhills Open Road Challenge 1-mile Shootout on August 7. The Sandhills is a remote location that also features a 55 mile rally-style open road race through the scenic Sand Hills of Arnold, in the Neb.
“We can’t wait to see if this minivan, powered by OPTIMA batteries, has what it takes to set the new record for the fastest minivan on the streets. It has been a great year for OPTIMA and to further showcase the full power of our products on the performance of your vehicles with this latest example in the new record MPV attempt ”, says Cam Douglass, Marketing Director, OPTIMA Batteries, Clarios .
In addition to winning the title, OPTIMA Batteries will host two Ride Shotgun winners, a promotion that offered enthusiasts a unique chance to “Ride Shotgun” with their racing heroes. Two lucky winners will be able to live their experience on the weekend of the Sandhills Open Road Challenge. The winners were announced last year at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
Winner Yvonne Juergens will travel to Nebraska to pilot a shotgun with OPTIMA PowerPro Ambassador Betim Berisha in her Porsche GT3 Cup. Berisha is the owner of BBi Autosport and has helped create a wide range of track ready components for modern Porsches. In 2019, the BBi Autosport 900-horsepower bimoturbo Porsche 911 GT3, sponsored by OPTIMA, set a record in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting a new record at the event.
The other Ride Shotgun winner, Skip Reagan, will set off from Texas to fly a shotgun with OPTIMA PowerPro Ambassador Mike Weiss. Weiss leads his California-based Weistec engineering team in Mercedes-Benz research, development and design to break records and set high performance standards.
The events at Sandhills come midway through the launch of OPTIMA’s new website and the release of OPTIMA’s H7 battery later this year. 2020 hasn’t slowed down OPTIMA batteries.
