2022 Volkswagen ID4 EV Shows Off Its Simple, Tesla-Like Interior

A few months ago, we got a glimpse of the vanilla exterior of the Volkswagen ID4 EV. Well, it seems that the interior of the new electric car follows the same philosophy of the simple is better. In fact, we rather like the clean, clean look, which reminds us of the clean cabin of the Tesla Model 3.

Like most modern cars, the ID4 minimizes the number of physical buttons by relying on digital touch screens. The instrument display – the ID4’s main difference from the Model 3 and Model Y, which do not have a formal gauge cluster in front of the driver – and the larger center touchscreen are located at the- above the dashboard. The steering wheel, display boxes and in-door control panels can be piano black or electric white, depending on the buyer’s preference. Other remarkable details? The brake pedal has a “pause” sign, and the accelerator has a “play” sign. Cheeky.

The Volkswagen ID4 will offer a fixed panoramic glass roof giving the cabin an airy feel. Also available is mood interior lighting with 30 color choices, which is an easy way to spice up the simple interior. There is another feature called ID Light, which is a strip of light under the windshield that indicates whether the vehicle is locked or unlocked and alerts the driver of incoming calls. It also tells drivers if they should brake to avoid a collision. The occupants are seated high in the ID4 and the doors are wide open for easy access to the cabin. When the rear seats are up, the cargo area measures 30.3 cubic feet, more than double the space offered in the Jetta sedan.

Volkswagen will fully unveil the ID4 on September 23. Hopefully by then we will know all the specifications of the US market. The first copies of the ID4 will arrive in US dealerships by the end of the year, with the first series of small EV crossovers initially being imported from Europe. Eventually, copies for the United States will come from the VW plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The ID4 will be sold in all 50 states through more than 600 VW dealers. Stay tuned for more details to come.
