2022 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe Rendered As Next-Gen Super Grand Tourer
The launch of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series marks the end of the life cycle of the current generation tourist. The coupe was first revealed in the fall of 2014, which means it will soon enter its seventh year on the market. It’s probably safe to assume that 2021 will be the vehicle’s last model year.
According to various sources, an all-new AMG GT coupe is expected to launch at some point in the first half of 2022. Our colleagues at Motor.es came up with the idea to make the car the second generation and here is the result – a slightly smaller and more elegant sports coupe with a more refined design.
It may sound a bit too short, but it is said on the street that this generation of coupe will be offered with four, six and eight cylinder engines, accompanied by hybrid power. All powertrains will be available only with a nine-speed automatic transmission delivering power to all four wheels via a variable all-wheel drive system.
It is also believed that the AMG GT Cabriolet will be scrapped to make way for a new SL roadster, leaving the AMG GT as a coupe-only offering. We’ve seen the SL test on public roads before and it’s more than likely that the two new sports cars in Mercedes’ portfolio will share the same front fairing.
In addition, the AMG GT Coupé and SL will be available in a 2 + 2 seater configuration with two small seats behind the driver and passenger. Details on the engine lineup are not available at this point, but we expect to start seeing the first test prototypes of the AMG GT next year.
