The Genesis G70 is not old. It started just two years ago for the 2019 model year, but the young luxury brand is keen to get things done. We have seen G70 prototypes for quite some time now, with fairly substantial refresh. Today brings us a new set of images that reveal a little more the fresh face of the G70.
It’s no secret that the updated model will win the new grille in the Genesis family. The big crest with its pointed base is already present on all other models of the automaker, including the recently updated G80. We saw the outline through heavy camouflage on previous G70 prototypes, but these photos drop the black covers for a tighter camouflage wrap, giving us a view that is generally unobstructed. The corners of the grille are always hidden and the detailed body lines are unclear. But we see the dual headlight design which is directly inspired by the G80 and GV80 SUV.
In this case, the facelift does not stop at the face. New fenders arrive and a redesigned rear fascia contains larger oval tailpipes and redesigned taillights. Heavy coatings on the doors suggest that changes are also happening, even if the cover-up might just be a trick to throw us. In any case, the new G70 will most certainly be recognized as a new vehicle.
We still need to have a good look at the interior, but we don’t expect much change for the passengers. Trim updates and a larger infotainment screen are likely because more is better the trend shows no signs of slowing down. In this case, this also applies under the hood, as the current 2.0-liter engine should be replaced by a 2.5-liter turbo. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission should send power to the rear wheels. The big V6 turbo will probably also come back.
We anticipate that the updated G70 will arrive next year as the 2022 model.
