2022 Corvette Z06 C8 Spied Idling While Testing In Colorado
As of February of this year, the first mid-engined Corvette Z06 was spotted in its entirety. It’s taken a long time, to say the least, and there have been several tidbits of information about the hotter Corvette C8 since its first prototype appearance.
This time, another suspected Z06 prototype has been spotted being tested in Colorado. Posted by Dylon DeBaca to a Facebook called group Corvette C8 owners (and friends), here’s a short clip of the mid-engine Z06 idling.
The above social media post was accompanied by a caption from DeBaca, who read:
Here is the 2nd C8 Vette prototype that we saw this morning. I believe he was waiting for a computer or diagnostic system / something to reset before he left. Great music from the middle exhaust, however. Most likely a ZR / Z06 or a Grand Sport, as the base models would likely be dual exhaust. 2nd post today, I feel special. Thanks for the good feedback.
Interestingly, the Z06 prototype comes with center tailpipes which arguably sounds good from what we heard in the video. The upcoming Z06 is expected to be powered by a 5.5-liter flat-cranked V8 with dual overhead camshafts.
In addition to the mill derived from the C8.R engine, the Z06 would come with three different wing options, including an active aerodynamic feature that includes side flaps. Another thing to look forward to is the flat-cranked V8’s 9,000 rpm redline.
The base Corvette is already an impressive vehicle, especially with its drivetrain, so we’ll likely see a warmer performance from the mid-engined sports coupe in its Z06 flavor if the reports are true.
We’ll know more when Chevy launches the Z06, hopefully by the end of this year or early next year.
