2021 Toyota Corolla Apex Edition Will Top Out At Nearly $30,000

The 2021 Toyota Corolla Apex Edition was a pleasant summer surprise from the Japanese automaker. The new model adds an assortment of small improvements to the compact car. However, pricing information was lacking so far. A new report from Cars Direct, citing a dealership ordering guide, shows that Toyota will start at $ 26,065 for the Apex Edition SE model, which includes destination charges. The leading Apex XSE edition costs $ 29,205.

As the post notes, that’s a significant premium over the standard Corolla SE and XSE models – $ 2,695 and $ 2,385, respectively. This extra money allows Toyota to improve the suspension, the most notable change to the car, by lowering the suspension 0.6 inches using new coil springs with internal shocks. The suspension is also stiffer, 47% more in the front and 33% more in the rear, which will improve the driving dynamics of the car.

Toyota also improves the appearance of the car, adding a custom body kit, bronze accents and a rear spoiler. The 18-inch black wheels weigh 2.2 pounds less than the standard Corolla set, and the wheels are unique to the Apex. Toyota is also offering customers the choice of two two-tone exterior colourways or a blacked-out one-tone look, which would help bring out the gold accents. Inside, XSE customers receive leatherette seats with eight settings.

One thing Toyota didn’t change was the Corolla’s powertrain. Apex Edition models will still use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder developing 169 horsepower (126 kilowatts) and 151 pound-feet (205 Newton-meters) of torque. Customers can pair it with a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual. Toyota is only producing 6,000 Apex Edition models for the 2021 model year, and only 120 will be available as the SE Apex Edition with a manual. The 2021 Corolla Apex Edition is expected to join the regular 2021 Corolla in dealerships soon.
