2021 Toyota Corolla Apex Edition Revealed
Last year, Toyota offered the Camry and Avalon sedans complete TRD transformations, with large wheels, spoilers and brakes. And we love them both, for the most part. Now the pint-sized Corolla sedan gets a similar option for model year 2021 – only it’s not a full-fledged TRD model like its siblings. Discover the Toyota Corolla Apex Edition 2021.
The Corolla Apex Edition is a slightly sportier version of the brand’s compact sedan and limited to just 6,000 for 2021. Based on the SE and XSE versions, the Apex Edition gets the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine Corolla, good for 169 horsepower (126 kilowatts) and 151 pound-feet (205 newton meters) and your choice of a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual. Interestingly, Toyota will only offer 120 versions of the Corolla SE Apex Edition with the stick.
While Toyota has made no changes to the powertrain, the Apex Edition at least promises to be more dynamic. The sedan sits 0.6 inches lower on the ground thanks to unique coil springs with internal rebound dampers, and is 47% stiffer at the front and 33% stiffer at the rear for the purpose of ” improve turns.
Visually, the Corolla Apex Edition includes a custom body kit, rear spoiler and bronze accents throughout, alluding to the new sporty nature of the sedan. The 18-inch wheels in black finish are also specific to the Apex edition and 2.2 pounds lighter per wheel than the normal set. Buyers can also choose from a pair of two-tone exterior colors – Cement and Super White with a black roof – or opt for the murderous look with a one-tone Black Sand Pearl (like the one pictured here).
Inside the Corolla SE Apex Edition you will find manually adjustable fabric seats, while the XSE Apex Edition offers a more pleasant faux leather finish with eight-way power adjustment and lumbar support. Both versions, meanwhile, will receive a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity – the latter is brand new on the Corolla for model year 2021. No word on cost.
