2021 SVE Syclone Debuts With 750-HP V8 And AWD
Just over a year ago, New Jersey’s specialty vehicle engineering brought the spirit of the GMC Syclone to life with a modern tribute based on the GMC Canyon. It had a 3.6-liter turbocharged V6 of 455 horsepower (339 kilowatts), which is a significant improvement over the original 280 hp (209 kW) generated by a 4.3-liter turbocharged V6. For the 2021 model year, SVE presents a more robust version equipped with a 5.3-liter supercharged V8.
It delivers enormous power of 750 hp (559 kW) and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) in a street-oriented performance truck based on the Canyon 2021 in the extended cab configuration with short bed. All this power is channeled to both axles via an eight-speed automatic transmission (8L90E), which has been “completely improved” by SVE.
The aftermarket shop mentions that the fast truck uses robust front and rear drive shafts and a transfer case with a biased rear configuration sending 62% of the torque to the rear wheels. Full torque can be sent to the front or rear non-slip wheels whenever traction becomes an issue.
The 2021 SVE Syclone comes with additional improvements over the Canyon on which it is based, including a dual stainless steel exhaust system and improved front brakes. The truck was lowered two inches (five centimeters) at the front and five inches (12.7 cm) at the rear thanks to a sports suspension package that comes with new shock absorbers. The rear stabilizer bar, the drawbar and the robust bearings complete the mechanical modifications.
SVE also exchanges the original wheels for a 20-inch forged aluminum set with a black satin finish that you will also notice on the exhaust tips. The alloys also have a red stripe and are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires measuring 285/45 R20 on both axles. Badges with a retro flavor are added inside and outside, as well as a hood insert with louvers and an optional foldable barrel cover.
The Syclone 2021 will be limited to 50 copies and these will be delivered with a 3 year / 36,000 miles warranty. If you prefer to have its SUV equivalent, the Typhoon, SVE told us last year that they are ready to make one as long as GMC comes out with its own version of the Chevy Blazer.
