2021 Ram Rebel TRX Spied Cruising In High-Horsepower Convoy

This summer, Ram will unveil the 2021 Rebel TRX. Four years ago, the brand unveiled the high-power pickup as a 2016 Ram Rebel TRX concept, hinting that it would be a competitor to the Ford Raptor. . There have been numerous spy photos and videos since Ram confirmed the pickup in mid-2018. The latest video shows a heavily camouflaged Rebel TRX driving on the highway – and it wasn’t the only one.

A Dodge Durango SRT and what appeared to be a Challenger RT Scat Pack, although the coupe did not have the proper badge, followed the truck. It’s a strange trio, yes, but not too surprising, but these are test vehicles, so we don’t know which powertrains they have. While we expect Ram to slip the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 under the hood of the truck, which could produce between 707 and 797 horsepower (527 and 592 kilowatts), it is possible that a less powerful model also happens.

We previously thought that the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 might be a possible option, or the 3.6-liter V6 as well. However, the Durango SRT and the Challenger RT Scat Pack use a 6.4-liter V8 that produces 475 hp (354 kW) in the SUV and 485 hp (361 kW) in the Challenger. Seeing them with the Rebel TRX could mean that the 6.4 liter could slip under the 6.2 liter supercharged mill in the range. The 6.4-liter would do even more than the 450-horsepower Raptor (335 kW) with its turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, if that’s the road Ram is taking.

The video quality is not the best, but it seems that the cross grille we saw on previous test trucks has disappeared. This corroborates an allegedly leaked photo of the May TRX grille that showed a front end that more closely matches the Ram’s current design language. The rest of the truck was covered with plastic wrap and black coating, hiding any other design details, although we expect larger fenders and many badges.

The short teaser video that Ram posted last week shows us a plume of desert dust and nothing else. However, you can hear the sound of a hoarse V8. We expect the TRX to be a suitable – and capable – all-terrain pickup that could include a two-speed, part-time all-wheel drive as well as adjustable suspension and steering. We will know all the details soon.
