Rüsselsheim. Electric, more emission-free, more energetic equals the new Opel Mokka. The German automaker is now unveiling the second generation of its compact bestseller, a powerful and completely new Mokka that perfectly combines pleasure and modernity. It is capable of zero emission electric driving, it is very efficient and more compact than ever – perfectly tuned for urban gymnasiums as well as for safe rides on the highway.

“The new Mokka is a leader and will change the perception of our brand! With the Mokka, we are reinventing Opel and introducing our concept for the next decade. It shows everything the brand stands for today and in the future: the Mokka is fun, efficient and innovative in all respects. In addition, it perfectly embodies the values of the Opel brand – exciting, affordable, German – in the most progressive way. It is the first Opel to be electric when it enters the market; real proof that Opel is going electric, ”said Opel boss Michael Lohscheller enthusiastically about the new model.

Despite a slightly longer wheelbase (+2 mm), the new Mokka is 12.5 cm shorter than the previous generation while offering its five passengers a similar cargo space of up to 350 liters in its trunk. Its total length of only 4.15 meters makes it very easy to maneuver and park in urban and suburban areas. The design of the new Mokka surprises with astonishing proportions and captivating precision compared to its overall bold appearance characterized by short overhangs and a wide and well-planted position, down to the smallest detail. The newcomer also stands out as the first model that presents the future face of the brand and the fully digital cockpit of the next generation: the Opel Vizor and the Opel Pure Panel, respectively. No analog displays, no fanciful and unnecessary decorative animations: the experience is clear and sharp, the information provided focuses on what is really necessary. Detoxified. The horizontally stretched dashboard incorporates two large screens; the one in front of the pilot is up to 12 inches in size. However, to allow intuitive operation and continuous driver concentration on the road, the Opel designers have kept the control buttons for essential functions, avoiding dangerous exploration in the submenus.

The new Mokka continues Opel’s tradition of opening up innovative technologies from the upper classes to a wide range of buyers. These include advanced systems such as ACC ((Aadvanced VSruise VSontrol), whose stop and go function can allow a cool driver to handle traffic jams in a light and cool way: his electric Mokka-e can automatically adjust its operations to the movements of the previous vehicle without requiring any operation on the brake or accelerator. In addition, an active lane positioning system automatically keeps the new Mokka in the center of a lane. The lighting system also offers high-end technologies with the adaptive and therefore glare-free IntelliLux LED® 14-element matrix light, unique in the category. All variants of the Mokka model are fitted as standard with LED lamps at the front and rear, an electric parking brake and recognition of traffic signs. A 180 degree panoramic rearview camera is also available.

The new Mokka is based on a new version of the company’s highly efficient CMP (Common Modular Platform) multi-energy platform. This lightweight and efficient modular system offers maximum flexibility in vehicle development and allows the use of a purely electric battery drive as well as internal combustion engines. The customer has a choice. The engineering team at Rüsselsheim worked in particular on massive weight control on the one hand, saving up to 120 kg compared to the previous generation, and improving body stiffness on the other hand , gaining up to 30% torsional rigidity in the case of the electric version with its low integrated battery structure. The advantages are obvious: the new Mokka consumes much less energy, while being much more responsive, agile and fun to drive.

For the first time in Opel’s history, the new Mokka will be available from day one with an all-electric variant. Driving the Mokka-e combines emission-free operation with an exhilarating experience. The electric motor delivers 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Newton-meters of maximum torque, immediately available from the start. Quick reactions, agility and dynamics are some of the exceptional features. Drivers can choose between three driving modes – Normal, Eco and Sport – for a good balance or the most fun, depending on their preferences. The maximum electronically limited speed is 150 km / h to preserve the energy stored in the 50 kWh battery and autonomy. A 100 kW DC fast charging system that can charge 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes is standard equipment. The Opel Mokka-e has a purely electric autonomy up to 322 kilometers according to WLTP1 in Normal mode, while Eco mode helps the driver to reach the maximum possible range. Whether it’s a wall box, high speed charging or a cable solution for the household outlet: the new Mokka-e is ready for all charging options, from single phase to three phase to 11 kW. It also convinces with an eight-year warranty for the battery.

Customers can look forward to a new generation of very energetic, fun and agile Mokka. It will be on sale from the end of summer 2020 and available at dealerships from the beginning of 2021. The newcomer will also be offered with particularly efficient diesel and petrol engines.

Clear structure: new design of the Opel brand face and cockpit

In the second generation, Mokka’s name is simply Mokka again, just like when it started in 2012. “Bold and pure is our consistent mantra,” says Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Opel. For the first time at Opel, the model name is proudly displayed in the center of the rear panel, using a new technically precisely chiseled font. When the first Mokka was launched, it surprised with its compact dimensions and robust appearance. The new Mokka is even more dense and robust, in a very progressive way: extra efficient, pure and daring, with considerably shorter overhangs (minus 61 mm at the front, minus 66 mm at the rear ), An additional 10 millimeters in width and a visually stretched silhouette for perfect proportions. Its compact size and general appearance make the 18-inch wheels more impressive than ever.

The Mokka is also the first model to present the new front fairing from the Opel brand: the Opel Vizor. Extending over the entire front part of the vehicle under the hood, the Opel Vizor is an elegant module that horizontally frames the brand’s characteristics such as the latest generation IntelliLux LED® matrix headlights and the typical signature of the wings of the LED daytime running lights, proudly punctuated in its center by the legendary Opel Blitz. The Opel Vizor invented by the team around design chief Mark Adams will appear on all models of the brand throughout the 2020s.

“Bold and pure, this is what the Opel design of the future will look like. The new Mokka presents athletic proportions combined with precisely structured fluid surfaces. We have developed this philosophy aligned with characteristic German design, combining bold progressive design with purity, ”said Mark Adams, vice president of Opel Design.

This philosophy continues inside, where the anchor is the Pure panel, which takes up the design intention of the Opel Vizor. Two wide screens up to 10 and 12 inches welcome the occupants; the center screen is deliberately tilted towards the driver and the air vents are pushed in the background to enhance a concentrated experience. The Pure panel provides the latest technology and the most important information for the driver, while all irritating visual stimuli are absent. The design of the center console has also been impressively cleaned: thanks to the electric parking brake and the new electric gear lever, no protruding element disturbs the purity of its design. All controls and modules are elegantly integrated.

Segment leader: Opel lighting technology and high-tech assistance systems

The new Mokka arrives in the B segment with cutting-edge innovations that, until recently, were only available in the luxury class. Opel is a leader in lighting technology. All Mokka variants are fitted with the latest generation LED lamps – from daytime running lights in typical Opel graphics to front fog lights. An absolute highlight in this segment is the IntelliLux adaptive LED® matrix light with a total of 14 elements. As with the Opel Insignia, the Opel Astra and the new Opel Corsa, the lighting system makes it possible to drive on permanent high beams. In order not to dazzle their conductors, the individual LED elements can descend or estimate in a few milliseconds to “cut” oncoming vehicles or vehicles driving in front of the light cone – nobody is dazzled but the passengers of Mokka benefit from lighting similar to that of a stadium. At the rear, the choice of LED only technology allowed designers to opt for very thin stretched lights improving the feeling of precision and quality.

Exceptional comfort: Opel seat technology and optimal networking

Excellent seat engineering is ultimate typical of Opel. Various ergonomic six-way seats are available, which are individually adjustable. A sporty Alcantara and classic leather interior are both to be ordered – which is very unusual for a B-segment vehicle. The crowning glory is the heated leather seat with perforated surface and massage function for the driver

The driver and front passenger can place their smartphones in the storage bin provided in the center console. Compatible phones are charged here by induction (wireless). A rubber mat prevents the devices from slipping. The new line of infotainment networks and entertains Mokka drivers and passengers perfectly. Multimedia Radio and Multimedia Navi systems with 7-inch color touch screen and high-end Multimedia Navi Pro systems with 10-inch high resolution color touch screen are available. The monitors are an integral part of the new Opel Pure Panel and are ideally positioned towards the driver.

the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible multimedia systems have integrated voice control. The new Mokka also offers OpelConnect a service. Live navigation2 with real-time traffic information, as well as a direct link to breakdown assistance and eCall make journeys even more relaxing for drivers and passengers. If the airbags or seat belt tensioners deploy in an accident, eCall automatically contacts the local Public Safety Response Point (PSAP).
