The Mercedes S-Class 2021 has been in development since 2015 and we haven’t seen it yet. However, that should change in September when the German automaker finally removes the cover from the luxury sedan. By then, however, spy photos and videos will need to fill the void. The latest, from the walkoARTvidoes YouTube channel, shows the sedan in traffic with a little less camouflage than before, but Mercedes is still hiding its face.
Images of the car without a bit of coverage leaked last month, giving us a clear glimpse of the restyled exterior and the all-new interior. Later in May, the first teaser appeared, offering a clear overview of the front, which does not seem radically different from the front of the current S-Class; however, it does present the company’s updated headlight design that is present on the new CLS and E-Class.
We know the S-Class will be a “technological tour de force,” according to Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler. It should be equipped with the latest security features and technologies, making the S-Class one of the ultimate luxury sedans. Mercedes says the S-Class will be launched with a level 3 semi-autonomous driving system with a level 4 system coming later. This would compete with Tesla’s autopilot and Cadillac SuperCruise systems.
The V12 will also continue for another generation, joining several six and eight cylinder soft hybrid engines. Mercedes will also offer the S-Class with four-cylinder powertrains in specific markets that tax larger, less efficient engines, such as in China. The German automaker will offer the S-Class in three wheelbases, standard, extended and Maybach – the extra-long offer.

Once Mercedes has removed the new S-Class, it will go into production at the company’s new Factory 56 plant. This is where the company will produce “upper class and luxury” models in the future. We expect more teasers, leaks and spy plans before the revelation later this year.
