2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS Priced to Compete With Bentley Bentayga
Mercedes is asking $ 161,550 for the Maybach GLS, which includes just about everything except the kitchen sink. Perks include heated, ventilated and massage seats, interior roof-mounted mood lights, plush Nappa leather upholstery, heated and cooled cup holders, and signature cabin scent. Passengers in the back are given a 7.0-inch tablet for working, while a wooden parcel shelf separates the main cabin from the baggage area. Buyers can also select a refrigerated compartment with personalized champagne flutes. Meanwhile, the exterior is adorned with a chrome grille, retractable running boards, standard 22-inch wheels (23-inch units are optional), and a Mercedes three-spoke star mounted on the hood.
Under the sheet metal, the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 contains a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. A 48-volt electrical system allows the SUV to incorporate a small electric motor for “mild hybrid” functionality. This powertrain delivers 550 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque, with an additional 21 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque available in short bursts from the electric motor. Mercedes claims the SUV reaches 100 km / h in 4.8 seconds. Sounds reasonable to us considering we pushed a 483 horsepower Mercedes GLS 580 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.
The Maybach has a few other tricks up its sleeve. When the doors open, the suspension lowers slightly for easier entry and exit. It also has a unique drive program that minimizes body roll so that rear passengers are not disturbed during the ride. Four and five seat configurations are available. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS will go on sale before the end of the year.
