2021 Lexus LC500 Meets Toyota Supra In Family Drag Feud
Usually, if we use the term drag racing in a sentence with Lexus, we are probably talking about the LFA. But, like any rule, this one also has an exception. Today’s drag racing video shows a different Lexus at the start line.
Of course, this is the sleek and luxurious LC500. It’s certainly not your typical candidate for drag racing glory, but with a naturally aspirated 470 horsepower (350 kilowatt) V8, it has what it takes to be a true sports car. At least, on paper.
Against it is another car manufactured by Toyota. It’s the brand’s flagship sports car, the new 2021 Supra, featuring a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine under the hood mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and producing 382 hp (285 kW ). Obviously, there is a big difference in the power output of the two, but as we all know, horsepower isn’t all that matters in drag racing.
In the first race, the Supra driver uses the sports car’s launch control and this ensures an easy victory for the lighter of the two vehicles. For the second run, the Supra goes without launch control but that doesn’t really change anything – the Supra is still significantly faster than the LC500. As one of the presenters explains, the reason is probably the cooled driver’s seat of the Lexus, which consumes a lot of energy.

Grand luxury tourism has one last chance in the form of a rolling start drag race. This is where it gets interesting because the two cars are quite close to the finish line. Which one is faster at the end? Watch the second part of the video at the top of this page to find out.
