It has only been over a year since Hyundai launched the 2020 Sonata in New York. The completely redesigned model aims to be a game-changer in the midsize sedan segment, and this is clearly seen in the aggressive styling of the Sonata. For what it’s worth, this is the most beautiful Sonata ever.
Hyundai wants to increase this aesthetic appeal even further by giving the Sonata a larger set of wheels. For the 2021 model year, the Sonata receives 19-inch wheels in the SEL Plus and Limited trims.
The new rims are wrapped in 245/40 R19 Pirelli P Zero all-season tires, which Hyundai says are aimed at “driving enthusiasts who seek a combination of performance looks, responsive handling and durability. with all-season traction, even in light snow. ”
Another standard feature added for the 2021 model year is the Safety Exit Warning (SEW), which is added on SEL, SEL Plus and Limited trims. Using the Sonata’s blind spot cameras, SEW-EURODRIVE warns the driver and passengers of oncoming traffic when they are parallel parked. Audible and visual warnings are given whenever necessary.
Hyundai has also quietly added electronic passenger height adjustment on the Limited trim based on feedback provided by Sonata buyers in early 2020.
The features listed above are in addition to the already plentiful tech toys that are present in the Sonata. Hyundai calls it “Beautifully Smart,” backed by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch HD infotainment screen with audio-video, navigation, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features. Options include Qi wireless charging, head-up display, and Hyundai’s digital key which uses a dedicated smartphone app.
The 2021 Hyundai Sonata goes on sale in August, although the company has yet to announce the price changes that come with the model year update.
