2021 Hyundai Kona Facelift Teased With Sporty N Line Model

Say what you want about the Kona, but you pay homage to Hyundai for having the courage to come out with such a bold design. The little crossover is set to pull itself together to avoid a midlife crisis, and today the South Korean marque is giving a first look at what the 2021 model year has in tow for the funky CUV.

Split LED headlights are sharper than before in the upper and lower groups, and even the regular Kona appears to have a sportier front bumper. Upgrade to the N Line and there’s a mesh grille design, sturdier air intakes, and three “nostrils” reminiscent of those little air intakes that Audi installs on the A1 Sportback. We hope these are genuinely functional and not just for show, but we might be disappointed with the recent trend in fake design cues.

Another difference between the normal and the N Line is the placement of the Hyundai badge. It’s located at the top of the bumper, flanked by the headlights, on the standard Kona while the spicy version has the badge in the front and center of the grille. At first glance, the normal model will avoid the thin horizontal slit of the pre-facelift model where it is located between the grille and the hood.

That’s all Hyundai is set to reveal for now, with the press release only mentioning that the redesigned front skid plate gives the crossover an “armored appearance.” More details regarding the design will be released in the coming weeks, but there is still no word on the full-fledged Kona N.

When that happens, expect the Kona N to deliver 275 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine running on an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. As for the hot N Line teased here, logic tells us that it will get the same 201-horsepower 1.6-liter engine as the recently introduced Elantra N Line.

The new Kona N Line doubles the sportiness with additional aerodynamic exterior details

Offenbach, August 26, 2020 – Hyundai Motor has shared a preview of its upcoming new Kona and Kona N Line SUVs that express Hyundai’s overall Sensuous Sportiness design identity.

Wider stance and more elegant look

The new Kona has a wider stance and a shark-inspired nose which gives the model a more elegant look. Upgraded daytime running lights (DRL) give it a sophisticated, high-tech style. The front skid plate and bumper add to its armored appearance.

The first Kona N line

The new Kona N Line receives a more aerodynamic design with low-setting air intakes and a more aggressive front bumper, complemented by corner fins and lean crease lines. The N Line model provides an attractive entry point for the N brand and extends Kona’s appeal to a wider range of customers.

More design details on the new Kona and Kona N Line will be revealed in the coming weeks.
