2021 Hyundai i20 N Line Debuts With Hot Hatch Looks, Standard Power
If you keep an eye out for Hyundai’s performance offerings, you might remember the i20 N Sport that launched around five years ago. It was a half-hearted attempt at what would become the full-fledged N Line / N portfolio, which in recent years has expanded beyond sedans and even SUVs. The supermini is once again making headlines, this time thanks to a new version of the i20 N Line based on the latest generation of the subcompact sedan.
As with the other N Line models, it combines sporty visual upgrades with the standard engines. This means that you can have two tailpipes on a car equipped with a 1.2 liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 83 horsepower. Customers can upgrade to a 1.0-liter turbocharged mill available with 99 hp or 118 hp. Mild hybrid technology is optional on the lower turbo engine and standard on the more rugged configuration to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
The i20 N Line adopts a more aggressive body kit with stronger front and rear bumpers as well as bespoke 17-inch wheels with a chic two-tone look. The hot hatch imitator can be used in Phantom Black, Aurora Gray, Brass and Polar White, the latter optionally available with a Phantom Black roof for a contrasting effect.
Hyundai has made some changes to the interior of the cockpit where the i20 N Line gets a pair of sporty front seats and an N-brand steering wheel. You will also notice the red stitching, metal pedals and a shift knob. Leather-wrapped gears with red inserts and the N badge.
Hyundai’s hot version of the B-segment hatch will go on sale in Europe from spring 2021, with a fat-packed i20 N also arriving next year with around 200 horsepower. The new top of the line is also expected to undergo a number of mechanical changes beyond the improved powertrain, including more precise handling, larger brakes and a stiffer suspension.
