As James May would say – Great news! The new Dacia Sandero is just around the corner. The humble Romanian marque Renault has finally launched the teaser campaign for the third-generation supermini, which will be immediately joined by crossover-esque Sandero Stepway (photo above) and the Logan sedan. All three cars have been around for a long time and are finally on the verge of abandoning their second-generation Clio roots dating from the late 1990s.
The trio will stay true to the Clio fundamentals but switch to the CMF-B platform used by Renault’s latest generation of subcompact hatchback, albeit in a low-cost setup to keep the asking price as low as possible. Those dark images are all Dacia is set to show at the moment, but we know the cars will be revealed “soon”.

Numerous spy shots have revealed that the exterior design will be a step in the right direction, although we reserve our final judgment for when the camouflage will come off. The prototypes appeared to have LED headlights for the low beam, which would be a nice feature to have on such an affordable car.
Love it or hate it, the infotainment system will be tablet type, which means it will pull away from the dashboard. We expect the Sandero and Logan to learn a thing or two from the Clio enthusiast, but it goes without saying that the quality of the materials won’t match that of the sedan with the diamond logo.
There’s a good chance the oily lumps will carry over from the Clio, although we don’t expect too high for the 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine offered exclusively with an automatic transmission from Renault. The relatively powerful 130-horsepower four-cylinder mill probably won’t be on the Sandero’s spec sheet, but there are rumors of a punchy hybrid version with similar power.
The bread and butter of sales will be represented by 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engines in atmospheric and turbocharged flavors, with power ranging from 65 hp to 100 hp. There should also be a diesel available, namely the 1.5 liter dCi with 85 hp or 115 hp.
How long is “soon”? The official three-in-one reveal could take place in the coming weeks.
